Prune and Phyllo Cigars with Orange Blossom Honey
Preparation time: 50-60 minutes
1 cup pitted Australian Prunes
1/2 cup dried dates,
250g cream cheese
1 orange zest
50ml fresh orange juice
40g brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
pinch of salt and pepper
10 sheets phyllo pastry
100g melted butter
60g brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
orange blossom honey
For the filling:
Pulse in a blender prunes, dates and walnuts.
Cream the cheese with all of the other filling ingredients. Stir through the nuts and dried fruit mix.
Lay out a sheet of phyllo pastry and brush it with butter. Remember to cover the rest of the pastry with a damp towel to stop it from drying out.
Mix the brown sugar with the cinnamon and sprinkle it over the butter. Cover with other sheet of pastry and sprinkle with the sugar mix.
Cut the pastry into 4 rectangles.
Place a spoon full of mixture onto one end of each square and roll up as per spring rolls. Brush each roll with melted butter and place on a baking tray.
Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes at 190 degrees.
Heat the honey and drizzle over the cigars.
